Activating a New Service: The Readiness Checklist
Complete a few quick steps to take a service from "Not ready" to bookable.
Overview
When you turn on a new service (like Piercing, PMU, or Tooth Gems), Apprentice shows a readiness checklist on that service's card. Each item is a requirement that protects you and your clients — pricing, the forms clients see, and a compliance attestation. Once every requirement is met, the service becomes bookable.
There are six requirements. Five are yours to complete, and one is handled by Apprentice — so you'll see your progress counted as "N of 5 requirements complete."
How to Access
- Choose the intended workspace and open Settings → Get Booked → Services. On mobile web, artist settings are under More → Setup → Settings.
- Find the service you turned on — it shows a Not ready chip and a Missing requirements list
- Work through each item using the button beside it
- Check the finished-service status after setup. The tattoo example below shows Booking enabled.

The Requirements
1. Configure pricing
Set a base price (or duration estimate) for the service. Use the Configure pricing button to jump to your pricing settings for that service.
2. Sign attestation
Acknowledge that you'll comply with the local laws and regulations for this service. This is a short, important step — see Signing Your Attestation below.
3. Add intake form
Tag at least one active, reviewed intake form to the service so clients answer the right questions while booking.
4. Assign consent template
Assign an active, reviewed consent form that runs during the prep flow, before the appointment.
5. Assign aftercare template
Tag an active aftercare template to the service. Non-tattoo services require an explicit delivery schedule — see Setting Up Consent & Aftercare for Non-Tattoo Services.
6. Compliance reference document — Apprentice managed
A platform reference document for the service. You'll see an Apprentice managed badge and no button — there's nothing for you to do here.
💡 Tip: Items 3 ("Add intake form") and 4 ("Assign consent template") sound alike but are different surfaces — one runs at booking, the other during prep. You need both.
Signing Your Attestation
When you click Sign attestation, a window opens titled Sign attestation for {service}. To sign:
- Read the disclaimer shown in the window
- Check the box confirming you've read it and agree to the compliance terms
- Type your full legal name — it must match the name on your Apprentice profile
- Click Sign attestation
Apprentice records the exact version of the document you signed for your records.
If Apprentice ever updates that disclaimer, you'll see a soft Re-acknowledge banner on the service card. This is just a reminder to keep your records current — your service stays bookable in the meantime and is never taken offline.
When You're Done
Check the status shown after completing the requirements. The page summarizes how many offered services are ready and lists services you have finished setting up. A ready tattoo example shows Booking enabled.
If a service says it is waiting for Apprentice, completing your checklist alone does not make it bookable. Verify the service appears in the intended public booking flow before offering appointments.
Tips
- Templates must be both active and reviewed to count. A draft or unreviewed form won't satisfy a requirement.
- Work the list top to bottom — pricing and the attestation are quick; the form steps take the most time.
- The Apprentice managed reference-document row is excluded from your "N of 5" count, so you can be fully done on your side even while that row is still filling in.
Common Issues
- The buttons say "Select a location first" (artists) — The form steps need a primary location. Set your location in your settings, then return to the checklist.
- I finished everything but the service still isn't live — Confirm the attestation is signed and each form is reviewed (not just created). If the Compliance reference document row hasn't been published by Apprentice yet, the service can't go live until it is — contact support if it's holding you up.
- The attestation won't let me sign — The Sign attestation button stays disabled until both the box is checked and the typed name matches your profile name exactly. Update your profile name if it differs from your legal name.
- A service I'd finished now shows "Re-acknowledge" — Apprentice updated that service's disclaimer. Click Re-acknowledge to sign the new version. Your service keeps taking bookings either way.
