Updating Your Email Address

Learn how to change the email address associated with your Apprentice account.



Overview


Your email address is used for account authentication, notifications, and important communications from Apprentice. You can update your email address at any time from your account settings. Changing your email will require verification to ensure account security.


Step-by-Step Guide


Step 1: Navigate to Account Settings


  1. Sign in to your Apprentice account
  2. Click your profile picture or name in the top-right corner
  3. Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu


Role-Specific Paths:

  • Artists: /dashboard/artist/settings
  • Clients: /dashboard/client/settings
  • Shop Admins: /dashboard/shop/settings


Step 2: Access Account Information


In the settings page, look for the "Account" or "Profile" section. Your current email address will be displayed here.


Step 3: Enter Your New Email Address


  1. Click "Change Email" or "Update Email" button
  2. Enter your current password for verification
  3. Enter your new email address
  4. Confirm your new email address by entering it again
  5. Click "Update Email Address"


Step 4: Verify Your New Email


For security, you'll need to verify your new email address:


  1. Check your new email inbox for a verification email from Apprentice
  2. Click the verification link in the email
  3. Once verified, your new email address will be activated


Important: Your old email address will remain active until you verify the new one. This prevents accidental lockouts.


Step 5: Confirm the Change


After verification, you'll receive:

  • Confirmation email to your NEW address: Confirming the email change is complete
  • Notification email to your OLD address: Security notification that your email was changed

  • Use a Reliable Email: Choose an email address you check regularly and won't lose access to
  • Update Before It's Too Late: Don't wait until you lose access to your old email. Update proactively
  • Check Spam Folders: Verification emails may land in spam. Check there if you don't receive it within 5 minutes
  • Keep It Professional: Artists and shop owners should consider using a business email for professional communications
  • Notification Settings Remain: Your notification preferences will automatically transfer to your new email address


Common Issues


  • Issue: Verification email not arriving → Solution: Check spam/junk folder, wait up to 10 minutes, or request a new verification email
  • Issue: "Email already in use" error → Solution: This email is associated with another Apprentice account. Use a different email or contact support if you believe this is an error
  • Issue: Can't access old email to verify → Solution: Contact support with proof of identity to update your email manually
  • Issue: Change not taking effect → Solution: Ensure you clicked the verification link in the email sent to your NEW address


What Happens After Changing Your Email


  • Login Credentials: You'll now sign in with your new email address and existing password
  • Notifications: All future email notifications will be sent to your new address
  • Chat and Messages: Your email address in project communications and chat will update automatically
  • Existing Projects: All your projects, appointments, and history remain unchanged


Security Considerations


  • Password Required: You'll always need your current password to change your email address
  • Verification Required: Both your old and new email addresses receive notifications for security
  • Immediate Effect: Once verified, the change takes effect immediately
  • Support Verification: If you need support to change your email, we'll require identity verification
